The man who built Kaunas’ roads: it would be hard to find a street we haven’t contributed to
Today, we want to honor a long-time employee of the Fegda Group and a wonderful person, whose work is now part of Kaunas city’s history. Our colleague Oskaras Bardziliauskas, who has led the Fegda Kaunas branch for over three decades, is retiring. Under his leadership, Fegda contributed to the improvement of many streets in Kaunas, and the company grew from just five employees to a team of 120 professionals.
As Oskaras recalls, in 1994, the company’s activities in Kaunas began with just five employees, a broken dump truck, a few shovels, and complete uncertainty. However, he and his colleagues were driven by enthusiasm, energy, and a desire to contribute to the well-being of the city and its people.
Over the years, under O. Bardziliauskas’ leadership, the company implemented numerous projects in the field of transportation infrastructure. Here are just a few of them:
- Reconstruction of Parodos Street, one of the main connecting highways in Kaunas;
- Reconstruction of Romainiai Street – Šilainiai highway;
- Infrastructure development of Kaunas “Akropolis” and surrounding streets;
- Reconstruction work on the A5 highway Kaunas-Marijampolė-Suvalkai (“Via Baltica” expansion);
- Work on the “Rail Baltica” section from Kaunas to the Lithuanian-Latvian border.
“As a Kaunas resident, the most important project for me was the Parodos Hill. I still often drive on Parodos Street and Parodos Hill – every time I do, I get a pleasant feeling,” said Oskaras in an interview with “Kauno diena.”
As he retires, Oskaras plans to spend more time with his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and friends. He also looks forward to his favorite hobbies: tennis, fly fishing, calligraphy, and drawing. “I’ll definitely have things to do,” laughs the long-time head of the Fegda Kaunas branch.
We thank Oskaras for his sincere, responsible work and his enormous contribution to Kaunas’ transportation infrastructure. Wishing you the best in the next stage of your life!
