Traffic rules near the RYO shopping center will change from April 13.

With warmer weather, street repair and reconstruction works have gained momentum in Panevėžys. Following the announcement about the reconstruction of the Stoties, Pušaloto and Marijonų streets intersection, another important project will soon begin in the city — starting April 13, reconstruction of the Klaipėda and Vakarinė streets intersection near the RYO shopping center will commence.

One of the busiest intersections in the city will be transformed into a roundabout. This location is important not only for daily routes of Panevėžys residents but also due to the nearby shopping center, so drivers will need patience — traffic changes will affect large traffic flows throughout the week.

During reconstruction, traffic through the intersection will be allowed only via Klaipėda Street, and a temporary roundabout will be installed at the Klaipėda and Savitiškio streets intersection for the duration of the works. For now, preparations are underway — the construction site is being set up, road signs are being installed, and preparations are being made for the main phase of the works.

The Panevėžys City Municipality identifies this intersection as one of the priority locations for reconstruction within the local road and street network. According to the contract, the works are scheduled to be completed in January 2027, although the contractor hopes to finish the project already this year.

“Whenever we plan works, we aim to complete them faster than предусмотрено in the procurement contract. However, risks always exist: unforeseen issues during construction, unfavorable weather conditions, and many other factors. The duration of works is always longer when construction takes place alongside ongoing traffic without fully closing the street, but this is unavoidable. Despite that, we hope to complete the works this year,” says Evaldas Kadys, head of the Northern branch of Fegda.

After reconstruction, the Klaipėda and Vakarinė streets intersection will become not only safer for drivers but also more convenient for pedestrians and cyclists. Pedestrian paths will be reconstructed, the cycling path will be upgraded and integrated into the broader cycling network being actively developed in Panevėžys, pedestrian movement will be reorganized, and two separate signalized pedestrian crossings will be installed. Pedestrian and cycling areas will be more clearly separated from the roadway by green zones.

Special attention will also be given to the environment — shrubs and flowers will be planted inside the roundabout, and additional landscaping with trees and greenery will be implemented throughout the area.

The reconstruction works of the Klaipėda and Vakarinė streets intersection will be carried out by Fegda, which won the public procurement announced by the municipality.
