Panevėžys Intersection Reconstruction Completed: Works Finished Four Times Faster!

Fegda has completed the reconstruction works of the Stoties, Pušaloto and Marijonų streets intersection in the city of Panevėžys. The works were completed one and a half years ahead of schedule.

During the reconstruction, vehicle traffic was diverted through surrounding streets, which caused considerable inconvenience for residents. As of today, vehicle traffic is already being directed through the newly reconstructed roundabout.

Although the project itself was not particularly large in scope, this intersection is very important for the city of Panevėžys. It is one of the city’s busier traffic arteries, connecting important streets and leading towards the railway and bus stations.

“This intersection had been awaiting reconstruction for a long time, and its transformation into a roundabout will not only help ensure smoother movement in the city, but also reduce the risk of traffic accidents and improve safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists,” said Evaldas Kadys, Director of UAB Fegda’s Northern Branch.

According to Evaldas, although the works progressed quickly and smoothly, as in any construction project, there were also unexpected challenges and unforeseen circumstances.

“After construction works began, we encountered disruptions related to the relocation of electricity cables. The relocation of these cables was not part of our scope of works, but it affected our work. However, the client responded quickly to the challenges that arose, and today we can all be pleased with the result – we completed the works in 6 months instead of the 24 months provided for in the contract,” said E. Kadys, pleased with the project’s success.

Another challenge that arose was a century-old oak tree, which, according to the technical design solutions, was planned to be removed. “We are glad that, with the involvement of the client and the designer, it was possible to adjust the position of the pedestrian path and preserve the oak tree,” said E. Kadys.

As part of the intersection major repair project, the carriageway surface was renewed, the stormwater drainage system, water supply and other utility networks were upgraded, and sidewalks were renovated. Protective railings, small architectural elements and renewed lighting were also installed, along with traffic safety measures. The intersection infrastructure has also been adapted for people with disabilities.
