Construction Project of the Intermodal Terminal at the Vilnius Public Logistics Centre

Project No. 7993/1

The Intermodal Terminal at the Vilnius Public Logistics Centre (VLC), located at Terminalo St. 8, Vilnius, was built within the Vaidotai railway hub and completed in seventeen months. This project was of great importance both for Lithuania and for the entire Baltic region’s logistics infrastructure, as it ensured efficient cargo transportation and facilitated the use of intermodal transport.

Project implementation:

  • A contract was signed with the company Lithuanian Railways in May 2013 – this agreement was crucial in ensuring close cooperation between the public and private sectors;

  • The project was recognized by the Government of Lithuania as being of national importance, highlighting its significance for both the domestic and international transport and logistics network;

  • Construction was completed in 2014, when the terminal became operational and established itself as a key part of the logistics infrastructure.

Project significance:

  • The main objective was to ensure efficient and sustainable cargo transportation using both rail and road transport, thus contributing to environmental protection and traffic flow management;

  • The efficiency of the logistics centre was increased, as cargo could now be transferred quickly and conveniently between rail and road, creating smoother freight movement and reducing transport costs;

  • Enhanced competitiveness and improved access to international markets strengthened Lithuania’s position as a logistics and trade hub between East and West.

Implementation period and completion date:
The construction project, which lasted seventeen months, was completed in 2014. Since then, the intermodal terminal has been serving as an important international logistics hub.
